Ran from 1969 until its demise just one year later, Success released around 15 Rupie Edwards produced singles. It would seem the label was used exclusively by Mr Edwards and some of his better productions include Fat Girl, Sexy Girl (the original rude version of Black Pearl, which was not released until a year later) by John Holt and a classic double header Too Late by Gregory Isaacs (catch the 12 version on Mr P's Playlist), backed by Can't Wine from The Kingstonians, of course, the one to catch is The Return of Herbert Splifington by Rupie Edwards All Stars.
According to our friends at Trybute Reggae Records the label was actually designed by Paul Khouri, and most of the early recordings (1968-69) were recorded at Dynamic Sounds (with Linford Anderson engineering). From 1970 he used the ex-Hippy Boys/Wailers Band (Aston & Carlton Barrett & Alva Lewis) & recorded at Randy's with Errol T engineering. |
